Each month we will feature an artist who uses the Trekell line of brushes!
Michael Severinhttp://michaelseverin.com/I have loved to look and do art for as long back as I can remember. As a
kid growing up and going to school in San Francisco, I would visit the DeYoung
Museum at every opportunity I would get a nd go straight to the paintings. I
loved to draw and did so quite often. My subjects as a young boy were
airplanes, ships, and tanks. My father was a navigator in the Air Force and he
would bring me photographs of military airplanes flying and on the ground. I
quickly learned how to draw these as I saw them on the photos. As a teenager, I
would go around the city and draw the harbor boats, trees in Golden Gate Park,
and trolleys on Market Street. I was becoming aware of the beauty of Nature and
I wanted to paint it like the masterful paintings that I saw in the museum.
When I graduated from high school, I reluctantly did not pursue art as a
career, as neither my parents nor I had the financial means to attend art
school. I got a job with the Postal Service, got married, and raised my own
children. My career with the Postal Service lasted 36 years. When I retired 10
years ago, I decided I wanted to be an artist and make that my second career. I
am a self taught artist, although I have studied with highly successful artist
such as Jay Moore, Charles Waldman, Jean LeGassick, and Ray Roberts. After 10
years of painting, I am still learning to perfect my craft to the best of my
ability and will probably always be striving to learn more.
I now live in Sonora, California. It is in the beautiful foothills of the
Sierra Nevada mountains. I am close to Yosemite National Park, Lake Tahoe, and
the many trails that wind their way to clear mountain lakes. This is my
backyard and this is where I love to paint. I am a member of the Mother Lode
Art Association and Central Sierra Arts Council. I am represented by
Petroglyphe Gallery in Mokelumne Hill, Ca. www.gallerypetroglyphe.com and
Gallerie Copper in Copperopolis, California.
