Every month we will feature a new artist who uses the Trekell line of brushes!

I'm
relatively new at this, my second career. Although I've always had at
least one painting in progress, three decades as a graphic designer
kept me from producing much. That's my excuse, anyway.
Since
my most consistent goal is to always improve, I'm happy to have
discovered Trekell brushes to help me with that. Yes, they perform
exceptionally well and are a great value, but -- just as important to
me -- working with fine materials helps my attitude. Trekell brushes
are beautiful. And that they're made in the USA by hand in no small way
contributes to my fandom. Really. I'm not just saying that because Trekell & Company is featuring my work here (for which I'm sincerely grateful).
Peo ple,
and the personalities and moods revealed by their expressions and
gestures, interest me greatly. And so my emphasis at this stage of my
artistic endeavors is on portraiture. Overall, however, my output is
eclectic in genre and subject matter, with form following function (a
holdover from my career in graphic design, I think) and with
inspiration striking me from wide-ranging sources; I find myself
thinking about how I would paint almost everything I see. But when I
consider what, about being an artist, is most important to me -- about
what my "vision" might be, that is -- I realize that my motivation has
more to do with how I go about this occupation of painting (including
all of the related activities involved in the business of fine art)
than it does with what I may be trying to achieve in any given work, or
even in my entire body of work. All I really want my work to say is
that I'm proud to be toiling at the nobler end of the scale of
activities human beings are capable of. And I want to go about my work
from day to day keeping in mind civility, sympathy, and the common
good. The results of such effort can't be bad.
I've
exhibited often in Albany, New York-area art shows. Recently, a
painting of mine was accepted for inclusion in the 2009 American
Artists Professional Leag ue's 81st Annual Grand National Exhibition at
the Salmagundi Club in New York City. Besides AAPL, I'm a member of the
Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America, the Cooperstown
Art Association, the Bethlehem (NY) Art Association, and the Colonie
(NY) Art League.
