Holbein Acryla Gouache

Holbein Acryla Gouache

What if we told you that beyond the worlds of acrylic paint and gouache, there was a hybrid called Acryla Gouache made to showcase the best of both of those worlds? You’d be pretty excited, right? That’s why Trekell has picked up the entire 107 color Holbein Acryla Gouache line which is comprised of 20ml tubes of highly pigmented colors, including metallics.

Quick refresher course: acrylic paints are known for their highly pigmented vividness, quick drying time, ease of layering, and satin/glossy finish. Traditional gouache is super pigmented but fragile and is even water-soluble when dry. It’s also known for its matte finish. So what happens when you mix the two? You get certain properties of each, resulting in a more opaque paint than watercolor that allows you to layer colors on top of each other. You get paint that is creamy, matte, and easy to spread. And you get a surface that is water-resistant, somewhat plastic-y feeling, but velvety-matte in appearance.

One important property to remember about Acryla Gouache is that once it has dried on your palette you cannot reactivate it. Since the pigment in these paints is so vivid, you don’t need to squeeze out much to get the results you want. Acryla Gouache doesn’t shift in color tone from liquid to dry, so you need not worry that you’ll need a lot of paint to get the look you’re going for.

Unlike most artist materials companies, Holbein only produces serious/artist level colors with just 16 color lines. However, whether you are an artist, designer, illustrator, student, or hobbyist, Holbein Acryla Gouache is an ideal medium due to its quality and versatility.

Try it with watercolors for a splendid blend of brights and vividness. Bird carvers, in particular, will love Acryla Gouache because it is water-resistant when dry, has a sturdier surface than traditional gum arabic gouache, and a natural-looking matte finish that acrylics can’t match.
