NATIONAL CUPCAKE DAY

National Cupcake Day is celebrated annually on December 15th. The cupcake was originally known as the 1-2-3-4 cake because the recipe called for 1 cup of butter, 2 cups of sugar, 3 cups of flour, 4 eggs, and also 1 cup of milk, and 1 spoonful of baking soda.
Although not officially called a “cupcake” until 1828 when it was documented as such in Eliza Leslie's cookbook “Seventy-Five Receipts for Pastry, Cakes, and Sweetmeats” variations of the cupcake have been enjoyed since the 17th century. In 1919 Hostess introduced their famous (thinly iced) CupCakes, but legend has it that it was Sir Winston Churchill that first suggested frosting a cupcake!
Today, cupcakes are as much of an artform as well...art! Bakers far and wide are constantly trying to one up themselves and each other with new flavors, decor and configurations. So visit your favorite baker, grab a few cupcakes and celebrate by creating beautiful, cupcake shaped artwork on National Cupcake Day - but don’t get any frosting on your masterpiece!!!
