Adam Hall - Trekell Featured Artist

As a visual artist, Adam Hall began working mostly with charcoals and oils. Self taught, he attempts to mix traditional style with contemporary. Using palette knifes and layering techniques he creates a true richness and depth to his work. Adam believes every painting is his next opportunity in truly expressing his vision and vibe through landscape. “Art is such a powerful tool and I strive to use it in the most positive way I know how.”

While his passion for art began growing up in Wellsburg, West Virginia, his professional artistic career began nearly two decade ago in Nashville. When he was not on the road touring with bands all over the world, Adam slowly became involved with a local design firm whose clientele took great interest and demand for his art. Eventually, he started working full time with major record labels and recording artists in Nashville, all the while pursuing his dream to become a full time artist.

Today, his work has been represented in galleries all over the United States and has been featured in such magazines as American Art Collector Magazine & Fine Art Connoisseur. Adam Hall proudly resides in Nashville, TN, with his wife Thais. Adam spends most of his time in his studio in Historic Franklin and continues to discover a fulfilling purpose through art.

What’s your preferred medium to paint, and why?
Early on in my career I jumped head first into painting with oils. You could probably count on my hands how many paintings I've created strictly using Acrylics. Partially, it was this romantic notion that I wanted to create using what the old masters used, but technically it had to do with the flow of the paint. Capturing depth and creating with layers feels more natural when using oils and gives me more control I guess.

What do you do to get out of an artist block?
In my mid 20's I started seeing art as a possible path that could be more than just a hobby. Meeting other professional artists and seeing their success was eye opening to me and helped me realize it was attainable. Having a creative community is super helpful for me as well as absorbing as much inspiring content I can. It's inevitable as a creative that seasons of doubt creep in and days of feeling uninspired will be many. For me, professionalism is key and means showing up everyday to put in the work. Some days it is just that, "work" and others it is tapping into that muse and feeling inspired. Some of my best ideas happen by just simply forcing myself to show up.

At what age/what turning point led you to be an artist?
In my mid 20's I started seeing art as a possible path that could be more than just a hobby. Meeting other professional artists and seeing their success was eye opening to me and helped me realize it was attainable.

What do you listen to when you are painting/creating artwork?
Always depends on what stage I'm at with a painting. Typically, I start out with no music at all or maybe just some ambient music with no lyrics. Once I have a solid direction and get in a flow then I'll listen to some Spotify playlists I've created. True Crime podcasts are also constantly in the background.

Do you feel it’s necessary to finish your painting prior to beginning another?
Not at all. Usually I'm jumping around working on 3-4 paintings at a time.

When you receive unsolicited critiques or comments, how do you feel/how do you react?
As long as they are coming from a place of good intention and not to tear down, then I'm all about some healthy critique. It's pretty rare that someone online does a critique of my work, however if my wife says she really does not like a painting then I loose sleep over it. haha. She's usually right.

Adam's Favorite Trekell Products:
Currently, I use quite a few of the Trekell flat series brushes with my ocean paintings and love how they hold up. By far, the gesso primed ACM panels and gesso primed Baltic Birch panels are the best quality panels I've ever ordered.
