Gamblin Reclaimed Earth Set - Limited Edition

The Limited Edition oil paint colors: Brown Ochre, Rust Red, Iron Violet

Brown Ochre is naturally opaque and warm with a golden undertone. This pigment isn’t heated to the extent of the other colors, so it retains the deep yellow/brown hue of the raw iron oxide.

In its transparency, Rust Red carries the warm color of rusty water. From the tube and in mixtures, it is exactly what you’d expect: an earthy red-orange.

Meet the first mauve color Gamblin has ever made. Straight from the tube, Iron Violet is a deep, earthy violet with a unique texture. Add white and it becomes the violet you see in the clouds at sunset or dawn.

Gamblin is so amazing

I love Gamblin paint so much, and I am such a fan of the Torrit gray tubes because they produce such unique tones. These reclaimed Earth tones are just as much fun to experiment with and I have enjoyed using them greatly!

So pretty, I recommended them on Instagram.

So, what I like best about this set is how naturally the tints, tones, and shades, (adding white, grey, and black to the paint if you're reading this and aren't an artist / just shopping for one), turn into skin tones. I swatched the pure colours without immediately noticing this. It was only when I started mixing that it hit me. The Iron Violet and Rust Red make incredibly rich dark shades. My favourite was the Iron Violet with a beautiful violet undertone that made the shade as luscious as the tint was useful for very delicately neutralizing reds. Mixed with white, the Iron Violet makes this really intriguing tint that's just plain handy. I know I stared at it for a while. Online photos don't quite do the richness justice, but if you like your Torrit Greys, you can tint this oil up into a real treat and use it as a rich (slightly fleshy) grey. Paired with the Brown Ochre and Rust Red, more golden and more rosy paints, you have a three tube set, that with a pair of tubes of black and white oil paint, make for a lot of quick, simple skin-colour mixing. Anyway, my prediction is that this paint should be in people's stockings for the end of the year, just for the fun of testing it alone. Take each tube through its tint, tone, and shade. You'll see it right away. It's great for skin.

The grey is not so grey.

I love the concept of these paints but unfortunately the colors are just okay. I love using the new grey but it’s not really grey, it’s more like gold, so I always add a little cobalt blue and red to make it grey.

The pigment is rich and full. I'm certainly not disappointed with the range of colors. These are just beautiful, and beautifully crafted.
