- 1/8" ACM - 2 sheets of coated aluminum, polyethylene core
- Artfix L64C Quadruple Oil Primed Linen
- Portrait-grade, Fine weave

- 4 coats of oil primer
- Adhered to substrate with Beva Film

I prefer painting on a hard support and avoid stretched canvas. So I had been painting on cheap canvas boards before realizing that a lot of my issues came from using "medium" texture cotton while trying to paint in a very realistic style. I discovered the wonders of linen eventually and tried to make my own. After realizing how much work it was and that standard non-art grade panels are terribly warped, I started exploring Ampersand's line of boards. These are initially impressive but their lack of tooth (I've tried a few variants) makes paint application quite miserable. I finally tried this product at my teacher's recommendation. It is simply the best in terms of support, smoothness, just enough tooth, less glare from a better weave, and a flat and strong enough support that it mounts very well on a floating frame. It's too expensive for studies or experiments but really worth it for painting you are going to keep or display.

I absolutely LOVE this surface, I always choose ACM panels for archival reasons, but the linen is just so amazing. It easy to blend, and get to refined details without fighting the texture of the surface but its also NOT so smooth and slick that its impossible to cover up the imprimatura in your first layer. LOVE IT!
