Caring for Your Brushes

We recommend using Trekell Linseed Oil Soap for your oil brushes.

Clean your brushes immediately after each painting session!

To prolong the life of your brush and retain its shape, use our Trekell Brush Restorer.

Keep the tips of your brushes in water to keep the colors wet while you are working with your acrylic paints. Your brushes may be damaged if your acrylic brush paint is allowed to dry in the tufts.

Soak your brushes in a brush holder that keeps the brush heads above the bottom of the vessel they are soaked in. This will prevent the tufts from being bent out of shape.

Do not use the same brushes for your watercolors, designer colors, or gouache as you do for your oil or acrylic paints. This shortens the life of the brush.

Keep your brush handles dry to prevent them from cracking and loosening. Keep liquid below the ferrule crimping to avoid getting the handles wet.

Allow your brushes plenty of time to dry thoroughly before storing them in an air-tight container. To avoid damage, make sure not to over pack your brushes in their container; leave plenty of room in between for air to circulate.

Please note that if you use your brushes on abrasive surfaces, such as scrubbing paint onto rough acrylic-primed canvas, your brushes will not last as long.
