Trekell Cemetery Gate Altar Panel – 1/2" Baltic Birch – 7 13/16" x 12"
Trekell Cemetery Gate Altar Panel gives artists a unique three-part painting surface inspired by Gothic cemetery gates and traditional triptych-style artwork. Two hinged side panels open to reveal the full composition, allowing the artwork to change depending on how the piece is displayed.
When shut, the panel measures approximately 7 13/16" x 12". Open the two hinged doors to reveal a larger 15 5/8" x 12" composition with three connected painting surfaces. Artists can create one continuous scene across the open panel, treat each section as its own composition, or use the exterior and interior to tell different parts of the same story.
Constructed from premium 1/2" B/BB Grade Baltic Birch, the panel provides a rigid natural wood surface without the flex of stretched canvas. The surface is pre-sanded with 180-grit sandpaper and left unprimed, giving you control over how it is prepared for your preferred medium and technique.
A CNC-routed keyhole on the back allows the finished piece to hang on the wall, making the hinged doors part of both the artwork and its presentation.

Creating with the Hinged Design
The hinged format gives you several ways to approach the artwork. Paint across all three panels to create a larger composition when open, treat each section as an individual part of a triptych, or use the closed exterior and open interior to reveal different imagery.
The Cemetery Gate format is especially suited for narrative pieces, dark art, portraiture, memorial or remembrance pieces, botanical subjects, fantasy, surreal work, and compositions where opening the panel becomes part of the finished artwork.
Preparing Your Panel
This panel arrives unprimed so you can prepare the surface for your preferred medium. Oil and acrylic artists can seal and prime the Baltic Birch with their preferred ground, while watercolor artists should apply watercolor ground or mount watercolor paper to the painting surface.
For techniques where you want to incorporate the natural Baltic Birch into the artwork, the pre-sanded surface can be left visible as part of the finished piece.
