Trekell Unprimed Gallery Profile Panels provide a premium Baltic Birch painting surface with a deep basswood cradle for artists who want complete control over how their surface is prepared.

This 5" x 7" panel features a 1/4" B/BB Grade Baltic Birch face mounted to a 1 1/2" basswood cradle for an overall depth of approximately 1 3/4". The surface is pre-sanded with 180-grit sandpaper and left completely unprimed, allowing you to seal and prepare the wood specifically for your preferred medium and technique.

With proper preparation, this versatile panel can be used with oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, encaustic, ink, enamel, charcoal, pencil, pastel, pyrography, and mixed media. The deep gallery profile provides a finished presentation that can be displayed with or without a frame.

Preparing Your Panel

This panel arrives unprimed and should be prepared for your chosen medium before painting. Oil and acrylic artists can seal and prime the wood with their preferred ground, while watercolor artists should apply watercolor ground or mount watercolor paper to the surface.

For pyrography or techniques where you want the natural Baltic Birch exposed, additional preparation may not be necessary.

The Story Behind the Panel

George H. Simkins, father of Trekell artist Greg Simkins, worked with Trekell to develop these cradled wood panels, creating a rigid painting surface with a deep gallery profile designed for both painting and presentation.
