Trekell Unprimed Traditional Profile Panels provide a premium Baltic Birch painting surface with a classic, lower-profile basswood cradle for artists who want complete control over how their surface is prepared.

Each panel features a 1/4" B/BB Grade Baltic Birch face mounted to a 3/4" basswood cradle for an overall depth of approximately 1". The surface is pre-sanded with 180-grit sandpaper and left completely unprimed, allowing you to seal and prepare the wood specifically for your preferred medium and technique.

With proper preparation, these versatile panels can be used with oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, encaustic, ink, enamel, charcoal, pencil, pastel, pyrography, and mixed media. The cradled construction provides a rigid, stable painting surface and a finished profile that can be displayed with or without a frame.

Preparing Your Panel

This panel arrives unprimed so you can prepare the surface for your preferred medium. Oil and acrylic artists can seal and prime the Baltic Birch with their preferred ground, while watercolor artists should apply watercolor ground or mount watercolor paper to the surface.

For pyrography or techniques where you want to work directly on the natural Baltic Birch, the pre-sanded surface can be used without applying a painting ground.

The Story Behind the Panel

George H. Simkins, father of Trekell artist Greg Simkins, worked with Trekell to develop these cradled wood panels, combining a rigid Baltic Birch painting surface with a classic profile designed for both painting and presentation.
