Round - 7000 Series

When people think of a fine art brush, they picture a round. The iconic, rounded shape is versatile, allowing artists to lay down washes, fills, and lines of all sizes. Rounds on the larger side can efficiently transform wide surface areas with fewer strokes. Those with finer points excel at delicate lines and intricate details.

Wash - 7010 Series

With a sizable head constructed from soft, flat hairs, a wash does what the name implies: laying down big washes of liquid. But, watercolorists know that a wash can also perform the inverse, controlling wet spots by soaking them up.

Rigger/Script Liner - 7000L Series

The script brush's long hairs are formed into a narrow point. Tasks requiring delicate details, such as highlighting, outlining, and lettering, are in this brush's wheelhouse because its paint-carrying capacity also allows for long, unbroken strokes. Supposedly named for its original use: painting ships' rigging.

Very disappointed.

I ordered two Kolinsky brushes, a #1 and a #3, recently. They are my first Kolinsky brushes and I had high expectations. They're supposed to be the pinnacle of brushes for watercolor. The #1 started to loose its point and fraying within a day of use. It became unusable after a couple of days. Trekell responded quickly and sent me another #1 brush. It too started to fray after its first long painting session. Not as badly as the first one, but heading down that road. Also it's ferrule is crooked on the handle. I have used the soap and brush restorer after each use. I keep them in their tubes when not in use. I reached out to trekell again and they issued me a refund right away and I'll be sending both #1's back to them. The #3 is a completely different story. It keeps it's point, has a wonderful snap, and lays down color beautifully. Every thing you could want in a premium brush. I also purchased a #1 Kolinsky liner-script. It has been a joy to use as well. I'm going to try a #2 Kolinsky round and see if it will perform like the #3, but allow me to use it for details too. All that being said, I can't recommend the Kolinsky round brushes in a size smaller than a #3 and I have been disappointed with the build quality in the #1 round. A size that I use a lot. Maybe it was a bad batch? I suppose we'll find out the reason someday soon.

Great buy

I had been looking for a company who made quality brushes in the USA. Trekell was the recommendation I received. I received my first Trekell brush, a Kolinsky Liner, and couldn't be more pleased. It holds paint well, holds its shape well, looks great and is reasonably priced. What's not to like?

Fine Details

I bought the smallest tipped brushes. Sizes 3/0, 2/0, 0. These brushes are great for tiny, fine details. I've been looking for brushes like these for my watercolor painting needs. Plan to use them for a long time with the brush restorer.

The Real Deal

I've only used the #6 sized brush but it's by far my best round brush, beating out a similarly sized Escoda Kolinsky brush, to my surprise. At first I chalked up the difference to having had the other brush longer, but after a few months I can safely say I've abused this brush more and it keeps snapping back to do great work!
