Trekell Lead-Primed Linen Panel – 1/4" Baltic Birch – 6" x 8"

Trekell Lead-Primed Linen Panels combine fine Belgian linen with a rigid 1/4" Baltic Birch support to create a smooth, responsive surface for oil painting.

This 6" x 8" panel features A.E. Arts Canvas Belgian Linen prepared with Williamsburg Lead Oil Ground, providing the smooth surface, controlled tooth, and handling characteristics traditionally associated with lead-primed linen. The linen is mounted to B/BB Grade Baltic Birch using BEVA Film, creating a firm painting surface without the movement or flex of stretched linen.

How This Panel Is Constructed

The Baltic Birch substrate is coated with Golden GAC 100 before the prepared linen is mounted to the panel. The linen is adhered using BEVA Film, a heat-activated adhesive commonly used in art conservation.

BEVA Film is used because it provides a strong bond while remaining responsive to heat and certain solvents. This can give a professional conservator options for working with the adhesive in the future if treatment or removal of the linen from the rigid support becomes necessary.

Important Information About Heat and BEVA Film

BEVA Film is a heat-activated adhesive. Finished panels and artwork should not be stored or left in environments where they may be exposed to excessive heat. Sufficient heat can soften or reactivate the adhesive, which may cause areas of the linen to loosen or separate from the panel.

Avoid leaving finished or unfinished panels in hot vehicles or other environments where they may be exposed to excessive heat. The ability of BEVA Film to respond to heat is intentional and is also one of the characteristics that can allow a professional conservator to work with the adhesive during future treatment.

About the Linen Surface

This Belgian linen has a very fine weave and smooth painting surface with little visible texture. Because the linen is mounted to a rigid panel, small natural variations or imperfections in the weave on the reverse of the linen may become visible on the painting surface after pressing.

Because linen is a natural material, subtle variations in weave and color may occur from panel to panel.

About Lead-Primed Linen

Lead-primed linen can naturally darken or yellow when stored away from light. If your panel appears darker or more yellow than expected, place it in an area with natural light. Exposure to light will help reverse the darkening and return the surface to a lighter appearance. This natural color change does not indicate a problem with the painting surface.

For hanging or display, this flat panel should be framed or mounted to a cradle.
