Trekell Gothic Portrait Floater Panel combines an oval painting area with a decorative, Gothic-inspired outer frame, giving artists a distinctive Baltic Birch surface with the appearance of a custom-framed piece.

The oval format naturally draws attention toward the center of the composition, making this panel especially well suited for portraiture, figurative work, florals, still lifes, botanical subjects, sacred imagery, dark art, fantasy, and other compositions that benefit from a more decorative presentation.

The entire panel is cut from a single piece of premium 1/2" B/BB Grade Baltic Birch. A 1/4" routed gap separates the central painting surface from the decorative outer frame, creating the visual effect of a floating artwork without requiring a separate frame.

The surface is pre-sanded with 180-grit sandpaper and left unprimed so you can prepare it for your preferred medium and technique. With proper preparation, the panel can be used with oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, encaustic, ink, enamel, charcoal, pencil, pastel, pyrography, and mixed media.

Preparing Your Panel

This panel arrives unprimed so you can prepare the surface for your preferred medium. Oil and acrylic artists can seal and prime the Baltic Birch with their preferred ground, while watercolor artists should apply watercolor ground or mount watercolor paper to the painting surface.

For pyrography or techniques where you want to work directly on the natural Baltic Birch, the pre-sanded surface can be used without applying a painting ground.
